The Ferrocontrol DARC S12-20-0J belongs to the DARC series of digital axis controllers from Ferrocontrol and controls brushless synchronous motors with a rated current of 12.0 A. In the DARC, positioning and servo amplifier are combined in one unit.
Function within the DARC system
The axis controller is connected to a DARC supply module (V05 or V15) and converts the 560 V DC link voltage provided there into the three-phase motor voltage. Several servo modules can be coupled in parallel on the DC link, up to eight drives per supply module. The controller receives positioning commands via the fieldbus from the supply module with interpolation processor or, for simple tasks, directly via the RS232 interface.

Control and feedback
Control is fully digital with online-optimised control parameters. Rotor position and actual speed are acquired via the robust resolver feedback with up to 16-bit resolution. Hardware version 20 adds an incremental encoder interface (input frequency up to 160 kHz) to the resolver interface for direct position measurement on the machine. Sinusoidal pulse-width modulation ensures smooth running even at the lowest speeds, and IGBT power stages with a 2 × 8 kHz switching frequency ensure minimal losses and quiet operation.
