The Ferrocontrol FBK3-2 is a fieldbus node (FBK) of the CNC fieldbus system: the interface between the CNC fieldbus and the decentralised input/output modules at the machine. The FBK3 version is the third generation of the fieldbus node; the designation after the hyphen distinguishes the hardware revisions – please state the complete designation from the type plate when enquiring.

Function in the CNC fieldbus system
The Ferrocontrol CNC fieldbus system is a decentralised control: the input and output modules are located directly at the machine instead of centrally in the control cabinet and are connected to the control computer via a two-wire line. The fieldbus node is the intelligent module on the local bus: it is looped into the two-wire line of the CNC fieldbus via two 5-pin circular connectors and supplies up to eight input/output modules (FB-IN16, FB-OUT16, FB-INOUT and others) in any order via a 26-pin header connector. The connected modules are detected and addressed automatically; on the node itself only the node address (0 to 63) is set via six DIP switches.

Monitoring and indication
A potential-free watchdog relay contact opens in the event of a fault or missing supply voltage and can be used to enable the plant. A red LED flashes on errors on the CNC fieldbus, a green LED indicates the supply voltage. If only one fieldbus cable is connected, a terminator connector must be attached to the free connection.
