The Ferrocontrol FBI-PC-3 Elumatec is an ISA plug-in board that connects the CNC fieldbus system to a compatible PC (CNC fieldbus interface). The FBI-PC-3 is the third generation of this board and fits all DOS PCs with an ISA slot. It is used in industrial PCs of the FIPC series and in compatible PCs on window production machines.
Function in the CNC fieldbus system
The Ferrocontrol CNC fieldbus system is a decentralised control: the input and output modules are located directly at the machine instead of centrally in the control cabinet and are connected to the control computer via a two-wire line. The board is the centre of the system: the real-time control (linking of the inputs/outputs, positioning of axes) runs on it, while the PC serves as the operating and programming interface and provides mass storage and network.
Own processor
The processor on the board takes over the entire control of the CNC fieldbus: it communicates with the PC via a dual-port RAM, provides the data pre-processed and executes jobs from the PC on its own. The PC is thus relieved of all elementary fieldbus operations. In addition to the fieldbus interface, two serial interfaces and a watchdog relay contact are available. If only one fieldbus cable is connected, a terminator connector is required on the free connection.
